Growing Smarter: Empowering Organic
(Strengthening Organic Agriculture Knowledge and Capacity for a Sustainable Future)

Introduction

Workshops are independently organised one or more sessions during the Organic World Congress. Workshops allow researchers, farmers, experts and students to meet face-to-face and have interactive discussions.

Workshops address various topics by extending the content of the 4 Tracks through case studies and group discussion.

  • Capacity development for the global organic movement
  • Introduction of institutions like the Global Organic Academy and NaturlandAcademy
  • Replacing harmful inputs with knowledge products
  • To emphasize the importance of knowledge and capacity development in empowering organic farmers globally
  • To build a strong network of farmers and advocates equipped with practical organic knowledge
  • To identify challenges and opportunities for organic agriculture through participatory exercises and collaboration

Participants will get an insight into the strategies and practices employed by different institutions involved in organic capacity development, from global farmers’ associations like Naturland and their newly launched Naturland Academy, regional federations like IFOAM Organics Asia, local and national organisations. Participants will share knowledge, get new insights, and possibly consider strategies for collaboration to strengthen global organic knowledge.

Marco Schlüter

International Affairs and strategy at Naturland

Marco Schlüter is the head of International Affairs and strategy at Naturland. After having founded IFOAM Organics Europe and managed it from 2003 to 2016, he joined Naturland in 2017 and is responsible for the development of Naturland in South-East Asia. Marco Schüter has been elected in the World Board of IFOAM Organic International in 2021, and ensured its interim direction from 2022 to 2024. 

Konrad Hauptfleisch

Konrad Hauptfleisch

International Development.

Konrad Hauptfleisch has extensive experience in management, consultancy, leadership development, training, and facilitation, all aimed at realizing human potential. Konrad has supported the development of organic agriculture in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, and has led organizations and mentored staff in various capacities. He has worked with IFOAM-Organics International for over eight years as the Academy and Programs Manager and later as the Head of Capacity Development. Since 2021 he is working at Naturland  Association, as Advisor for International Development.

Sophie Egerer

Sophie Egerer

Naturland Academy coordinator

Sophie Egerer is the coordinator of the Naturland Academy. She has an extensive background in  management of education projects in France and Germany. After having the project BIOFRUITNET aiming at making the knowledge on organic temperate fruit production available to European farmers and several other development cooperation projects, she took the responsibility of the Naturland Academy in 2023.

Jennifer Chang

Jennifer Chang

Executive Director of IFOAM-Organics Asia

Jennifer Chang has been working as the Executive Director of IFOAM-Organics Asia since 2012. She is also the Executive Director of the Asian Local Governments Organic Agriculture (ALGOA) and the founder of the Women in Organic Agriculture in Asia (WOAA) launched in November 2021. Formerly, she has also served as Vice-President of IFOAM-Organics International from 2017 to 2021. She has lived and worked in many countries including the US, Europe, and Asia for over 25 years and has worked at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland before returning to her home country to work for IFOAM-Organics Asia.

4. Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong

Vice President of PGS Vietnam (Participatory Guarantee System)

Huong Dang: Dang Thi Bich Huong has been working for the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA) since 2013. She is the General Secretary of VOAA since 2023, She is also the Founder and Director of the Center of Organic Agriculture Development and Support (CODAS). Formerly, she has also served as Vice President of PGS Vietnam (Participatory Guarantee System) from 2017 to 2023. She has worked for the Organic sector for over 11 years and managed many organic projects in Vietnam. She is currently honored as an Organic Youth Ambassador by IFOAM Asia.
